I really, really loved and enjoyed this book! I am a huge Downton Abbey fan and while watching an interview video on YouTube I learned that the real Countess of Highclere had written a book. I couldn't order it fast enough. I was engrossed from page one and whipped through this fairly quickly. Often, I would stop where I was reading to look something up on Wikipedia. It was all so terribly fascinating. Lady Almina was a woman to truly admire. Her strength and determination were incredible. And the entire story about the discovery of King Tut's tomb was riveting. I loved it when Lady Fiona parallels the true story with things that were fictionalized on the television program. That truly was the heyday of the aristocracy. It was amusing to me though, that all those titled gentlemen needed rich Americans to save their hides, since none of them were able to manage money and had no real income. (Although Almina was British.) They may have thumbed their noses as the self-made millionaires but they certainly needed the cash their daughters brought to the marriage! If it weren't for rich industrialists the aristocracy would have had a difficult time surviving. This book is full of history and tells the true story of interesting characters living a life I can't even begin to imagine. I highly recommend. I passed both this and the book on Lady Catherine on to my mother-in-law who also loves them.
