This book is like that. If you're like most people, you grew up a little in awe of "celebrities." You invested them with "super" powers and qualities, assisted by the images foisted on you by their PR teams.George Jacobs invites you to the inner sanctum. You see the "real people" behind the facades. And what do you see? People you would avoid like the plague. Nasty, selfish, cruel, vindictive, criminal, infantile behavior. You think about the nice, kind, loving people in your own family (hopefully, that's what you have - I've been lucky, I guess) and you thank the good Lord you were born into an ordinary family.George Jacobs had an excellent ghostwriter/co-writer who really put verve into this narrative. And George Jacobs, also no saint, comes across as a flawed but likable human being whose moth to flame reaction to being drawn into Sinatra's circle is very understandable.This book should be required reading for everyone maturing into adulthood. It will make you less naive. It will put a damper on any celebrity worship you may be inclined to do. And it will make you grateful for the truly great people you encounter - ordinary folks in your day to day life who treat each other with courtesy and thoughtfulness, and who try to live by some moral code.
